For Moon-Jae Seong, the season of Ash this year ‘round was somewhat of a tedious one. He’d spent far too much time stuck inside dealing with talks of politics amongst his noble-blooded ‘peers,’ much to his great chagrin. He did, however, make a few new connections that were entirely unrelated to the tumult that was Kalzasern political bickering; he’d made friends with two Ecithian expats who found themselves in the area by complete accident. Initially, he had thought that they’d want to leave and go back home, correcting the ‘mistake’ that had led them here in the first place. It was a relief as the seasons turned over to Frost and he had a bit more time to himself.

Instead? The two of them opted to stay, and he offered them his house’s training grounds to use when they wanted to practice their combat techniques in a controlled environment. They were sanctioned by his word and he was often seen sparring with them, too; this occurred often enough that nobody really questioned the presence of these two strange figures after a short while. They had told him their overarching goal was to slay a creature of myth, so he figured they’d need all the help they could get to prepare for such an endeavor. Why not aid them? Plus, he found himself intrigued by their quest– maybe he’d help when the time came.

On this day, however, Jae-Seong was returning to his home, hoping he’d find the aforementioned pair. He’d had some errands to do in the greater city and floated by some of the various bounty boards, collecting a few jobs– he figured that they might benefit from some experience that was a bit more realistic than simply sparring. And, fortunately, as he pathed on through to the training grounds, both Vinsue and her half-brother Bonzi were present. There was something nice, almost refreshing, about having them here; Kalzasi was ever the mixing pot but at the palace, variety beyond his kin wasn't that easy to find.

He stood silently for a minute, waiting for the two of them to take a break, and when they did, he approached. “Ever the diligent ones, aren’t you?” The half-Rathari inquired, friendly in tone. “Have you any interest in pursuing some actual work? The reward can be split between the two of you; I’ve little personal need.”

Who would have thought being teleported to a random location could have been so lucky. True Bonzi would not have hired the person he did if it wasn't someone he trusted. But still neither Vinsue nor Bonzi had expected to find a place that could help advance their skills so well for the journey ahead. Who would have thought an argument would have helped find a new friend with a great training ground.

Bonzi often switched between sparing, observing and studying. Today was one of the days he was training with his half-sister. Vinsue on the other hand was always training. Today was no exception though her training was more trying to help Bonzi figure out how to use the dart in rope. Bonzi had the rope and Vinsue had the chain both attached to a training ball rather than the darts as both could easily see how dangerous that could be.

They both stood a few yards from each other, the ropes constantly spinning almost in unison. They would count out together, slinging the ball in quick strikes then immediately pulling it back. They were doing well. That was up to the point where Vinsue got distracted. She had noticed Moon walk up right as she was supposed to pull in the rope. The unfortunate result was a knot on Vinsue's forehead. This caused laughter from Bonzi. Once he caught a breath, he spoke to her. “Time for a break then?” she would wrap up the chain and remain silent as she went to put the practice weapon up. Seeing Moon again she smiled and rubbed the spot on her head. Bonzi took her practice weapon and gave a nod to let her know he could take care of the equipment so she could talk with Moon.
“Never hurts to practice.” she said. When he mentioned work, she completely forgot about the knot on her head. “Sounds exciting. So what's the target?” Bonzi would soon join them with his pack on. A wet rag in hand. “She has been hoping that you would find something we could work on together,” he said. He would hand the rag to his half-sister. “It’ll help prevent swelling.” he would say with the authoritative look that said not to argue with him. And so, she put the wet rag on her head despite the cold temperature.

Jae-Seong’s intention was not to interrupt them; he knew that surprising people in training scenarios like this could lead to injury, clumsy as some people were with their startle responses. He had thought he’d chosen his window to approach well enough, but apparently, Vinsue would have benefited from him waiting just a bit longer. He did exactly what he was trying not to do, and as a result, she knocked herself upside the head with her weapon. Of course, it was a practice weapon, so it was no serious harm done, but he still felt the slightest pang of guilt. Bonzi’s laughter was about what one would expect from a sibling in this scenario.

Looking apologetic, “...ah, my bad. I didn’t mean to startle you. I will say that the two of you were doing well prior to my interruption.” He made an effort to sound encouraging, at least, with a voice laced with warmth.

To start his explanation, “The target is a thief, but he botched his last job; got caught and ended up taking the life of the shopkeep– such a shame, that.” And while the swordsman spoke, he took note of how Bonzi, despite his mocking, was quite the caring sibling; he’d gone off to both gather his things and something to help soothe his half-sister’s impending welt. Something about it filled him with an odd, almost painful sense of nostalgia.

To what Bonzi said, Jae-Seong smiled. “Was she now? I’d planned on bringing the two of you something prior, but…Ash was a bit busier politically than I would’ve liked.” He shrugged, but wouldn’t elaborate further; sometimes it was best to be a little nebulous.

“We’ll have to travel a bit out of the city to find him, but his last known location isn’t too far south. It is believed that he has friends there– that they are housing him,” he continued.

“Do you have everything the two of you will need in your bags now, or will you need to gather anything else?” Of course, he didn’t expect them to be immediately prepared.

Gesturing to the bag he currently wore, “...I am, but I don’t mind waiting for a beat while the two of you go and fetch anything you might need.” Jae-Seong was usually a patient man, and in this scenario, he was happy to be.
