Hector & Necromancy

I have been meaning to ask about this since the magic soft-cap was added but kept forgetting.

Hector's apprentice-level exp in Necromancy was always intended to be, more or less, a sort of "flavor" skill with little substance. It was meant to reflect the fact that while in Zaichaer, Vergil had been teaching him Necromancy. However, I never intended to push the skill beyond apprentice for Hector.

The reasoning for this is as follows:
Hector has a base-level academic understanding of the three realms of Necromancy. However, his applications of this knowledge are objectively awful. He struggles to remember much of the particulars regarding pictography, is poor at following the steps in any of the rituals, etc. Basically, this skill was never intended to be something he himself would use & he is always supposed to be pretty bad at it.

Which brings me to the point of this request:
Can I have the skill not count towards his limit of 5 magics?

This can be accomplished in one of two ways;
either lock the skill at apprentice, thus barring me from putting any additional exp into the skill.
or
remove the skill

I prefer the first option because it is more friendly to his lore, but don't really mind either way.

Hi Hector,

No, I am afraid not. You have selected the magic and while your intent behind it may to have only been to pursue a base level academic interest, it is still a magic that has been chosen. My recommendation is to incorporate it into the character's overall interests more. Necromancy could compliment Hector's Vitalis quite heavily if pursued.

Bearing in mind that the soft cap was put in place after your character creation, applications for further magics will be considered accordingly. If Hector shows sufficient justification for acquiring future ones, be they Rune or World, we will take that into account.

Happy Writing,
Paragon

Hmm, true. My brain keeps defaulting to treating the soft cap as something of a hard cap when, as you've reminded me here, it really isn't.

You are right that Vitalis & Necromancy go well together, and I've explored one avenue with this with Vergil insofar as the medical aspects. Hector, by nature, isn't a healer and would probably have more fun "healing" people incorrectly (ex. giving somebody a 3rd arm in place of an amputated leg or something of the sort). He also tends to hyper-fixate on specific aspects of things, so I'll probably ruminate one a niche application of Necromancy and tie it into Vitalis for him, as I like more...unique...things for him, haha! Maybe more with the artefacts for him since I've always thought that part of Necromancy is really cool but doesn't quite suit Vergil.
