☠ 14th of Frost, Year 123, A.o.S ☠
☠ Læbirius had been resting within communal cohabitates as he had been exhausted. He had been training rigorously the first few days after becoming a full-fledged citizen. The Orkhan woman who had been cuddling him within her bosom nuzzled against him as she shifted in her sleep, but Læ took that opportunity to slip from her grasp. Finally free he dressed himself and set out. To his surprise, however, someone had been waiting for him outside. Goodmorning Læbirius, I hope you slept well. Xena greeted, a smile on her face as she had been waiting for him for some time now. Come and walk with me, I wish to ask a favor of you.
Standing the seer escorted the young mage out into the city, rain pouring down as they walked, Xena careful enough to find paths that would afford them some refuge from the torrential storm. Soon they would find themselves at a pagoda that overlooked the vast jungle that surrounded the Drathera. For a while Xena simply sat there, looking out into the distance as the only sound between the two of them was the pattering of rain overhead. She then took his hand and held it within her own. When we first met, I told you that I was aware of the request made by Cithia and the other dragons. I come to help you with part of that task. In exchange for carrying out this favor, I will entrust my eyes to you. she began, a look of shock on the Lae's face.
The favor, however, is easier asked than done I am afraid. She paused for a moment, Lae able to see a sort of pain in the look on her face, sorrow or sadness if he hazard a guess. He wasn't sure what to do in this moment and allowed her the time she needed before she continued with her request. Some time ago, my sister went to visit one of the outlying villages a few day's journey from here. She was always an inquisitive woman, but above everything else she was kindhearted. She wanted to help those cut off from Drathera in any way she could. It's been three whole seasons since I've heard from her, which isn't like her. The village she went to help has also gone dark, more so now due to the eclipse and threat of shadow creatures.
She now turned to him, removing her visor to reveal those enthralling and piercing eyes of hers. I ask you to go and investigate this, and find out what happened to my sister and the village. Do that for me and I will happily give you these eyes of mine. she stared at him as her words sank into him, Lae taking moments to consider, but ultimately knowing he had no choice. There was much riding on this, so he nodded in agreement. Patting his hands she stood and motioned for him to follow her. There was a bit more silence between them but before long, Xena had brought him to a courtyard of sorts as it was surrounded by a large overcast that shielded much from the rain.
There within the enclosure were a few faces, some familiar and some not so much. Among them was Lady Yorha, but she was the only one he could recognize. The rest were of other races as they seemed to conclude whatever conversations they were conducting and gather around Xena giving her their full attention. I have gathered you all here for the investigation and rescue of the Village of Farbanti. As I have explained to all of you, I suspect that the village may have come under attack from a lingering shadow creature. I have hand picked you all due to the capabilities I know you have. she concluded with a bow before turning and making her exit. As she reached the entrance to the enclosure, she turned to look over her shoulder. May the fates be in your favor.
With those words, she was gone in the rain. Laebirius was left among the group, of which Yorha seemed to be leading. She was standing over a table with several maps on it, one detailing the distance from Drathera to the village and the layout of the village itself. The group consisted of eight of them, and one member of the group, a large orkhan looking male, came up to him. "What does the Seer see in you? From what I can tell you don't even look like you can fight your way out of the loincloth." he teased, poking Lae on the forehead. Swatting the large male's hand away, he snarled at him, glaring up at the man. "Why don't you try me and find out ugly?" he sneered, the ork male growled as he threw a punch, catching Lae in the chest and sending him flying back.
Sliding and rolling to a stop, Lae got onto his feet, his axe and shield in his hands now. He was breathing quite heavily as he was being charged at by the large orkhan male, their sword in hand, and coming to swing it at his left side, aiming to bisect Lae in half. His shield came up to block, the force behind that attack knocking a bit of the air from his lungs as he slammed against the enclosure wall. He knew he couldn't handle him alone, so Lae called for help. "Dinok Jot" he whispered as the demonic centipede came forth, hissing at the orkhan.
Lae regained his composure as he charged at the orkhan, going on the offensive. "Attack him!" he ordered as he ran around to the ork's right, as Dinok slithered around to his left. Lae swung his axe looking to cleave the ork's right arm off, only for the ork to catch the axe. A smile came over the ork as he gave a smug smile to Lae. Dinok took advantage of the moment and coiled around the large male tightening its grip on him. The ork wrestled with the centipede, letting go of Lae's axe, and allowing the mage to step back before launching again at the ork.
"Enough!" The word came with a resounding slam of Yorha's scythe. "As much as I would enjoy watching you both tear yourselves apart, we don't have time for this. Now come we have much to discuss and prepare for our journey." she spoke, both men knowing it was not something that was up for discussion. Yohra exuded power, and even with her calm and demure demeanor, she was surely a terrifying force to deal with. The ork glared back at Lae. "This isn't over little one." he posed menacingly leaning over Lae before joining the others at the table.
Catching his breath he finally regained his composure to join the others. "The village we are investigating is known as Farbanti, and is a four day journey from here. What we know about the village is that the chief was a world mage, and a good one at that. Because it went dark we don't know what awaits us once we get there, but what I have learned is that the villagers are still there. Unfortunately, there's not much else to go on until we reach the village and investigate." she said gathering up all the maps and materials. "I believe you all should go get some rest, we leave at first light tomorrow." With a nod and bow from every Yorha gestured for Lae to follow her.
"I see we are making new friends?" she teased, an appraising eye looking over him as they walked. "Wasnt my fault he started with me. What's his deal anyway?" Lae shot back, rubbing the spot the Ork had punched. "He will take some time to warm up to you, his name is Ohtoki. Born and raised here and feels that those who live in Ecith should be strong in every facet of their lives. The siltori woman next to him is Tana, an exceptional scout and tracker. The human man over there is Creed, he is our cartographer and medic. And last but not least the hytori woman is Leona, like Ohtoki she is our heavy hitter combatant. Together we make quite the team." she noted, patting the young man on his head as she gathered her things so as to venture off somewhere else.
Lae simply just stood there, contemplating what awaited them once they found the village and the inhabitants. He would have a long discussion with Varinios and Taidryn upon his return to the communal in, and he was certain he wouldn't be getting much sleep, as his mind would be counting the many possibilities of this leg of his journey. ☠
