In the aftermath of Solar Sovereign Thalya IV's removal from office by the Luxian royal House of Sol'Aværys, the Upper Realm remains under the deft stewardship of His Serene Highness Everyl Princeps. As the Conclave of Electors continues to deliberate over the primary contenders, no consensus has yet been reached. The deposed Solar Sovereign herself has not been sighted since her disastrous coup attempt upon the erstwhile princes regent of both Umbrium and Luxium. For this slight against his spouse, His Grace Finn Viator, Prince Consort of the Umbrium, has been seeking a means to locate and bring the renegade Time Witch to justice.
Meanwhile, the realm is reeling from the disappearances of a number of promising young mages in their final year at the Academia Arcanum who went missing during an expedition into a hitherto unexplored region of the Umbrium. Public interest stirred the Umbrian Court to act, with Prince Regent Arvælyn accompanying his spouse and his half-brother, Raithen Dux, on an expedition to locate the wayward young wizards in hopes of bringing them home safely.
In the interests of encouraging distractions, Solunarian promotion of arena blood sports has curried audience enthusiasm to an all-time high. Between professionals fighting bouts, there are also the more casual matches with gladiatorial hopefuls trying their hand in the ring for coin and glory. Pitted against other combatants of a similar skill level, what awaits is determined by the hopeful's own hand.
