“For in the flames of the valiant red dragon, there will your destiny you find. Upon their scales are written tales of mysteries that baffle the mind. For none are braver, none are kinder, none are more ferocious too. Upon the wings of red dragons, friend, are the fates of all of us, and you.”

Since time immemorial the mighty red dragon has stood as a symbol of courage, bravery, and the advent of impending destiny. The guardians of fate, red dragons, were created by the venerable Dragon Goddess of Fate, Vicis. Across the ages, they have been heralds of great change as well as champions devoted to safeguarding the destinies of mortals.

Fires of the First World

In an age before the Age of Dreams, the gods forged the First World. There they created the first beings that could truly be considered something close to mortal. These were the dragons. Into the breath of the first red dragon, Vicis breathed the flames of destiny. Into her dragonflight she wove a spark that would serve as a beacon to all mortals, that they might never lose their way as they forged new paths across the endless expanse of time and space. It was red dragons who served as torchbearers, helping to guide dragonkind and many other beings away from the fall of the First World. Since that time, they have served as symbols of guidance, guardianship, and destiny.

Psychology of a Red Dragon

Red dragons are known for their fiercely independent nature. As the Guardians of Destiny, they have a sixth sense about the course of events that transpire in the world around them. Their awareness of this flow of Destiny and Fate increases as they age. This grants red dragons a duality in that they can sometimes come off as arrogant and all-knowing while at other times being surprisingly empathic to the lives of those around them. Red dragons seldom take up the lives of mysterious sages or scholars though this is not unheard of. These dragons are driven to lives of action, being the embodiment of mortal drive and perseverance. They are drawn to people and events that impact the world around them in incredible ways. Benevolent red dragons are most commonly seen in the guise of warriors, adventurers, explorers or even mercenaries. Less benevolent red dragons are often warlords or powerful commanders in dark armies.

Physiology of the Red Dragonflight

The red dragons are second in size and strength among dragonkind, parallel to the black dragonflight. They are eclipsed only by the silver dragons. While every dragon possesses natural armor that makes mortal devices seem laughable by comparison, red dragons are in possession of some of the most resilient. As their namesake implies, red dragons have varying shades of red scales adorning their bodies. They typically take the shape of reptilian beasts with four legs, a prehensile tail, and two wings upon their backs. They usually have long necks and their heads are often adorned with horns that almost crown their features. It is not uncommon for red dragons to possess frills along their necks and spines. The red dragons have black sclera with reptilian irises that burn with a red-gold fire. As they mature, they eventually lose their black sclera gradually until their eyes become pools of volcanic flames. It is common for older red dragons to have other magma and volcanic features to their bodies.

Dragoncraft of the Red Flight

All full dragons possess the power of Dragoncraft, a power that wizards across the ages have attributed to being a lesser form of Archmagic. The red dragonflight is known to possess the following powers. Though this is not a comprehensive list of abilities red dragons have been known to have, these are among the most common manifestations.

Anoint the Chosen - Red dragons, especially elder ones, have it within their power to bestow upon mortals a sliver of the draconic grace that is afforded to them. Across history this has, without fail, resulted in these individuals becoming incredible heroes, influential figures, or terrifying foes recorded in the annals of history. To receive the blessing of a red dragon is to become a Chosen One, in whatever form that may take.

Destiny’s Grace - Red dragons possess a preternatural awareness of the impending future. Young dragons have an awareness only of what is about to immediately transpire. Adult dragons can actively look days and even weeks into the future. Ancient dragons can perceive years of the great tapestry of Fate and Destiny.

Fateweaver - Blessed as they are by the Dragon Goddess of Fate, the red dragons can bend the events of the world around them to better suit their goals. Exactly how this manifests depends on the age and abilities of the dragon in question but it is a power that makes facing a red dragon a dangerous endeavor, even young ones.

Red Dragonfire - The red dragonflight’s affinity for the element of Fire is well known, so much so that they wield it with a startling amount of finesse and expertise. Many of a red dragon’s abilities are often expressed through fire. They are immune to fire as a weapon against them, with older dragons even being immune to the heat of volcanic magma.
