Tall and lithe, the man appears graceful, carrying an air of both elegance and nobility at first glance. With fair skin, white hair and icy eyes, he possesses angular, oddly elfin features and the eyes of a hunter. Jae-Seong is a mixed breed, though in large part, he is indistinguishable from humans aside from the aetherial oddity of his horns, though none of his blood is human.
His resting expression often comes across as austere, serious, or cold and he carries himself with a poise and a sort of gentility that betrays his noble upbringing, much as he wishes he could hide it.

Calm, commonly described as having an aura of tranquility, he is incredibly difficult to anger. While upon first impression he can come across as rather steely or cold, the man is far more likely to express warmth or compassion than he is to be vicious. Naturally kind and empathetic, he has a tendency to put himself at risk to help others, even animals.
Though he can appreciate beauty in all of its forms, he finds the opulence displayed by nobility to be off-putting, preferring the simpler things in life. The rampant greed enjoyed by the rich is not only wasteful, but it is often built on the backs of others, and of that he has never been very appreciative of. As such, he often strives to distance himself from his family, frequently denying the association altogether.
If provoked, he becomes an entirely different person. His judgment is firm and his mercy is null. If one earns his ire, he becomes as bloodthirsty as a beast.
History
Born into House Novalys, he wanted for nothing growing up. Despite his family’s immense resources, he was raised in an environment wherein much of this was spent in a way notably more utilitarian than the overwhelming majority of other nobility. As a result, his attitude towards opulence and excess differs greatly from many of his peers, his own kin notwithstanding. Luculliance is distasteful, in his eyes. Greed and excess are tragic wastes. Sowing one’s wealth and power through the yoke of tyranny or oppression are loathsome. Because of this, it is typical to find Jae-Seong sequestered within the Grand Palace of the First Wind, often found sparring, engaging in more solemn hobbies or pursuits more erudite in nature within its walls when he is in Kalzasi.
In his youth, he found himself enamoured with a particular dual sword fighting style– ssangeom. Though he was given runes in his early twenties, he has been slow to bother developing them, only using the magic to enhance his swordwork. This is largely born out of his tendency to stick to what’s comfortable, being that he can be considered somewhat of a creature of habit. His talent, however, has been noted by others; some even say it’s a tragic shame how little he applies his diligence to the runes. Maybe one day, this aspect of him will change.
However, he did find himself not entirely content with this life of peace in Kalzasi city proper. Living among the nobility could be grating, such as they were. He found a lot of them to be…obnoxious or off-putting for a list of reasons seemingly without end. Much as he could take solace amongst his own kin, this felt rather stifling. Free of spirit, he found himself not enjoying a life of complacency and instead chose to embark on one far more transient in nature as he neared the age of twenty-five.
And much as his hobbies of fishing, reading, and martial arts could keep one entertained for ages, in his heart, he could not fight the desire to roam the lands of northern Karnor. It is not that he didn’t have the opportunity to involve himself in more political endeavors, he simply found them exhausting and preferred to spend his time elsewhere. Thus, he would leave– working as a mercenary while out. His family freely allows him to come and go, much as many of them wish he would spend more time with them, a sentiment shared by many of his friends in turn. Sometimes he leaves for only a few months, sometimes longer than a year. His travels started and ended solely at his own whimsy, though rumors of political unrest would always find the Rathari back home.
Nobody knows what he does when he leaves aside from the word ‘mercenary,’ nor does he answer to anyone when asked. The only frame of reference people have for his escapades on his sojourns out of the city are rumors from small villages or caravans passing into the city of a crow Rathari, as bloodthirsty as he is benevolent. While many would say that this fabled swordsman was a boon to the region, others would shun his methods as merciless or cruel. To him, his actions were a means to an end– a method of achieving a greater good. And sometimes, net good is achieved through sacrifice.
