It All Begins Somewhere...

For all, it came without warning or precursor, without a call or draw. For all, it appeared in a place that they had never been before, a place they did not know. In some cases, it appeared where a door might logically be. Sometimes, it even fit the aesthetic of the location. Other times though, it arrived in the most unusual of places, even occasionally impossible places. How they arrived mattered not. What mattered was the fact that each and every single person would find a door in front of them. It was nondescript, a simple handle, no obvious signs of a lock or other markings.
It was an unlocked door, made of wood.
Any attempt to discern more beyond it being an unlocked door made of wood would, in fact, further support that it was simply a door, made of wood. It mattered not if it was looked at with the eyes of a god or the eyes of a mage or if the greatest detective that has ever lived, wherever she might be, gazed upon it.

Opening the door would reveal a simple room, lit by a few candle sconces, their flames rocking back and forth lightly, on the wall, made of the same wood as the door. Within the room was a table with two chairs, simple, wooden. There was the scent of salty air, the scent of the ocean for those that were familiar with such things. Nothing more.
Nothing less.
If one closed the door and walked away, it would disappear and they would never see that door again. But if one entered it, closing it behind them, they would find that they are no longer alone in the room. In the chair opposite them, an elven man sat, leaning back sloppily in his chair, a teasing smile on his face, a bit of a glow in his eyes. He was adorned in a simple linen shirt, his bare arms entirely covered in tattoos.
"Welcome to The Duck. I am Kynne. Thank you for coming. Please, what is your name?"
His grin grew a little, "And if you would be so kind, surprise me."
