APPEARANCE
Tall and broad, Masagh is most often bedecked in his thick leather armor and grey tunic. Like the rest of his secretive House, Masagh will usually wear a cowl accompanied a heavy cloak to hide his condition and to protect from the sun. He wears an amulet around his neck and carries a well-kept, but archaic claymore sheathed at his belt. With skin like grey leather and flesh feeling like old roots, Masagh's High Born Ghoul lineage is evident. His nose and lips are withered, revealing a rictus of teeth and his hands are skeletal with claw-like fingers. While clearly undead, he does not shamble about. He moves with intentional grace and swiftness common amongst experienced warriors and is often quite conscious of his bearing, rarely slouching or bumping into things.
When fed on living flesh, however, he appears as a middle aged man with a strong physique and a mop of straight black hair. Bloodshot and blue, his eyes bore out with a stern gaze at the world around him and a middling beard covers a strong jaw.
Marks, Scars, and Tattoos:
-A black forked snake tongue he has in all forms since first being initiated into Animus.
-A pair of runed rings inked into his left forearm just under the elbow around a thin scarred line. Keen observation will show the arm is slightly discolored from the rest of his body.
PERSONALITY
Masagh has a rigid discipline that comes with decades spent diligently focusing on ones goals to avoid the madness that consumes so many of the undead. Tight-lipped and brooding, he is often slow to trust and slower to confide. As one conditioned from birth to take responsibility for the well-being of his House, Masagh is a man of action and will sooner take responsibility than find another to do so. He draws his confidence from his accomplishments and is insecure about the critique of his peers.
HISTORY
Born as the youngest son of Emerande Creth, Masagh is nevertheless old by the standard of most races. Raised secluded away in the the Creth Compound during a time when Gel’Grandal was a smaller, simpler city, he has seen much of growth within the bounds of his home city. From settlement to Imperial Capital, through technological and arcane advancement, Masagh and his family watched from the shadows.
His early years were spent studying the family histories as well as the doctrine of paranoia that had supposedly kept them ‘alive’ for centuries. It was not easy, growing up to realize you were perceived as evil by all and that the only way to satiate the agony of your existence was a cardinal sin according to the sunwalkers of the world. That being said, it was an easier existence than a rogue ghoul would have, and he was taught to be thankful to the family for that.
As the youngest son of Emerande, and thus only four places removed from von Maxium himself Masagh never felt a life without the weight of responsibility. He was duty bound to House Creth and their goals of creating a new undead world for his kind to thrive in. This has been the theme of all his lessons throughout unlife. The rhetoric of this dream motivated him through the endless hunger pangs and the decades of careful secrecy. Someday he and his kin might live in a place where they need not hide, they need not feel ashamed to exist.
As soon as he was tall enough, Masagh’s days filled with sparring. Hours and days spent in the sparring ring of the compound meant strength built in his undead form and he grew tall, swift and agile. A passion formed, and from a passion, an obsession. From an obsession, a serenity. In that serenity he found a reprieve from the hunger of undeath. The sparring offered a mental distraction which Masagh latched onto with relish.
He became a devoted student of the Creth claymore. When it was time to receive his runes and ascend to one of the three duties of the House, Emerande wasted no time in naming him a Knight and ordering the Reaving initiation. As is tradition in House Creth the initiation fight was viewed by the Council and Emerande herself. Masagh was pitted against the Weaponmaster, Cynfael. It was a long and brutal match, with Masagh almost losing the weapon at one point. But he achieved victory, and the position of Knight.
His second chosen rune was a peculiar one, but Emerande wished him to receive the Cardinal Rune of Animus to allow him mobility around Gel'Grandal that others might not have. Masagh argued against this choice, saying other protective forms of magic would be better. Emerande would entertain no argument about it, saying she needed her son to move about the city easily, and his sword could protect well enough. And so he endured the Rune of Animus as well. His first form being that of a decaying and bone thin black hound.
And thus Masagh stood sentinel over the precious haven his House has carved out for themselves in Gel’Grandal for centuries. He walks the shadows at night, cloaked and cowled, and looking for any opportunity to further his House.
